The Barrett Art Center is a not-for-profit arts organization located in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Barrett Art Center’s mission is to promote the understanding and appreciation of the visual arts through exhibitions, education, and outreach programs.
History
Founded in 1971, the Barrett Art Center is one of the longest running art organizations in the Hudson Valley region. The Barrett Art Center was originally located in the historic Barrett Mansion on North Clover Street in Poughkeepsie. In 1978, the Barrett Art Center relocated to its current location on Titusville Road.
The Barrett Art Center is named after two of its founding members, John and Helen Barrett. Both John and Helen were active in the local arts community and were passionate about promoting the arts in the Hudson Valley region.
The Barrett Art Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is funded in part by generous contributions from individuals, businesses, and foundations.
Exhibitions and Programs
The Barrett Art Center mounts exhibitions of contemporary art in all media by regional, national, and international artists. The Barrett Art Center also offers a variety of education and outreach programs for all ages.
The Barrett Art Center is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Admission to the Barrett Art Center is free.
